Have you been creating a perfect flashback in history in your home? If you have been working to recreate a home from the past, piece by piece, with antiques, you know it can be a tough process. It can also be a heartbreaking process if you purchase what you think is an antique piece, and find out it's a fraud.
There are so many end tables on the market today that look like the old things, when they're really knockoffs. If you want a reproduction of something from history, that's great, but if you really had your heart set on real antique end tables, that just won't do.
Before you purchase what you think are antique end tables there are a few things to take into account.
Get to know the dealer. While most antique dealers are on the up-and-up, there are always some that are out there trying to make a quick buck off of your trust. Talk to the dealer about the antique end tables that have your attention. Most experienced antique dealers know a lot about the items in their shops and can likely tell you a story or two relating to the antique tables you have your eye on, as well as their history. You should make sure the person you are dealing with is an antique dealer, as they are used to being out in the field and can tell the difference between the real thing and a fake.
You should also see what kind of reputation the dealer has. Many dealers are in professional antique organizations. See if your dealer is and check on their history in that organization. Many of those organizations have codes and standards they make their members adhere to.
History adds up. Find out how long the dealer you are considering working with has been in the antique business. The longer people are in the world of antiques the more they should know about them and should be more easily able to tell a real antique from a fraud.
The best way to know that the antique end tables you are getting are the real thing is to find a dealer who specializes in them. You may be able to find a dealer who only works with antique furniture, and they will be more able to aim you in the right direction to find the perfect tables for your home.
Finally, get a guarantee that what you are getting is a genuine antique. Many antique shops will stand behind their merchandise, and they should. If a dealer doesn't want to give you a written guarantee that a piece is what they say it is, you should worry. If they are sure it's an antique, why won't they put it in writing? The obvious answer is that they may well know it isn't, but were hoping you wouldn't notice.

I am going to concede the fact that everyone knows how to get online and sell Antique at Auctions on EBay, Yahoo. Since I cannot imbed links to the auction site you will have to get to the site on your own.
Antique (Latin: antiquus; old) is a collectible item which is old (usually at least 100 years old) and is collected or desirable because of its age, rarity, condition, utility, or other unique features. It is an object which has reached an age which makes it a witness of a previous era in human society. Antiques are usually objects which show some degree of craftsmanship, or a certain attention to design such as a desk or the early automobile. In a consumer society, an antique is above all an object whose atypical construction and age give it a market value superior to similar objects of recent manufacture. Any historical museum makes a considerable use of antiques in order to illustrate historical events and give them a practical context. Just about any object can become an antique if it survives long enough, but value of an antique in the market place is determined by its appeal and social acceptance
Antique trade associations are formed and operate for the purpose of promoting the standards of honesty, quality, and good public relations and to promote improved relations among members and the general public. Shops carry 75% antiques or old collectible merchandise.
Antique traders have learned that the power of buying and selling at auction is really very simple. When the bidding stops and the hammer fall, the value of an item is set. The buyer, not the seller, sets the price. This simple distinction cuts through all the chitchat about what art, antiques and collectibles are really worth.
There are auctions of exceptionally strong antique sales featuring estates from all over the USA and virtually every country on this planet, with emphasis on Period furniture; Fine Art; Antique Toys; Country Store & Advertising; Rare Books; Weapons; Americana; Garden & Architectural; antique jewelry; Nautical; Weathervanes & other Folk Art & much, more. These guides are usually helpful tools to estimate the value of an antique for both buyers and sellers. Sites should also offer a full refund if you end up with a reproduction instead of the real thing. Some sites only offer refunds for a limited period, but this should give you enough time to have the item appraised. As an alternative, paying a little extra to have an antique appraised before purchasing it online is well worth the cost and the knowledge that what you are buying is genuine.

So ask around. Ask at least 4 people who don't know each other, so you are sure to get a good and fair estimate of the general opinion. Remember that there will always be one or two people who don't like someone, but if 4 unacquainted people you talk to have horror stories of being ripped off by a dealer, steer clear of them. Bottles that were made between the late 17th century and the mid 19th century have a pontil mark. The pontil mark is a circular depression on the bottom of the bottle. It is made when the pontil rod is transferred from the blowpipe for final shaping and finishing. After 1800, the pontil was usually ground down and polished so it was not as noticeable, but it was still visible.
